Director

Sylvia was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and has lived in the United States for more than 30 years. She has lived in Olathe since 1993, is married, and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. In addition to serving as Director of the Center of Grace, she is also part of the pastoral staff at Grace UMC, where she primarily coordinates pastoral care. She enjoys reading, working in her flower garden and spending time in her hammock.

Administrative Assistant

Monica has been the Front Office Receptionist at the Center of Grace since 2008. She also works as the Administrative Assistant and Home Visitor for Migrant Family Literacy Program as part of the ELL (English Language Learners) Program. She has one daughter and one beautiful grandson. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time relaxing with friends and family.

Betty returns to the Center of Grace team in an official capacity after leaving to serve full time at Grace United Methodist Church in 2012. In addition to her duties at GUMC, Betty now manages the growing complexity of the finances at the Center of Grace. Betty enjoys organizing and helping people find what they need. Betty grew up in Mexico and currently lives in Olathe. She is married and has 4 beautiful daughters. When she isn’t busy with work or mom duties, she loves shopping and making crafts.

Marilyn George

Board Chair

Marilyn holds a B.A. in Business Education from WSU and is a retired Olathe middle school teacher. She keeps busy in her spare time by doing secretarial work at a local funeral home.

Rev. Dr. Nanette Roberts

Administrative Officer

After growing up on a small family farm in northwestern Kansas, Nanette graduated from Kansas State University and was a teacher before heading to seminary at St. Paul School of Theology. She has served as Senior Pastor at Grace United Methodist Church since her appointment there in 2003. Along the way Nanette has traveled for international mission work, taught at conferences, and finished her Doctoral degree at Wesley Theological Seminary. She loves to run, read, preach, teach, and has a weakness for popsicles.

Kristi Cooper

Secretary

Kristi holds a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Central Arkansas, but is now retired and enjoys spending time with family and working in the community. She serves on the Finance Committee and the Grace Extravaganza Committee at Grace UMC and is an active member and volunteer at the church in addition to her work with the Center of Grace.

Gary George

Treasurer

Gary is a man of many talents, who we are fortunate to have serving as our Board Treasurer. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from Wichita State University and a Ed.D from the University of Kansas. After retiring from his position as Superintendent of the Olathe School District, he took up teaching part-time and teaches adjunct at the Graduate School of Education at Baker University and in the Continuing Education Department at Johnson County Community College. Gary remains very involved in the Olathe community, where he serves as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board of the Good Samaritan Societies of Olathe, and was formerly the President of the Rotary Club of Olathe – Santa Fe Trail Chapter. Gary is an avid photographer and many of his photos of the Center of Grace appear on this website.

Doug Hemsath

Doug holds a B.S. in Geography from the University of Northern Iowa and a M.S. in Resource Planning from Missouri State University. He is currently the GIS Manager for the City of Shawnee. Doug is highly involved at Grace United Methodist Church, and is an active volunteer with the youth group and many other ministries.

Mike Pelan

Mike holds a B.S. in Meteorology, but is now retired and giving his service full time to the community and his family. Mike also serves as Finance Secretary for Grace UMC and sits on the Steering Committee for Circles Olathe.

Lois Waters

Lois is passionate about service and missions work and participates in a great deal of work around the community to help those in need. She coordinates the free health screenings that take place at the Center each week and serves on the Missions Committee and the Oversight Committee at Grace United Methodist Church. She is a coordinator for Peace Academy, a program of Grace UMC that teaches kids to be peacemakers in their communities, and coordinates a medical missions trip to Tochimizolco, Mexico every year.

Walt Cooper

Walt holds an MBA from Baker University and a B.A. in Marketing from Tennessee Tech University. He is currently Senior Director of Strategic Accounts at Medtronic. In addition to serving on the board at Center of Grace, Walt serves as Chair of the Staff-Parish Relations (SPR) Committee at Grace United Methodist Church and is actively involved there in many other ways as well.

Brad Hrabik

Brad is a pharmacist by profession at OptumRX and also volunteers with the Olathe and DeSoto School Districts with his wife, Leslie. He is an active volunteer at Grace United Methodist Church.

Leslie Hrabik

Leslie is a teacher in the DeSoto School District, where she teaches technology to young students. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Technology Enhanced Teaching. She also volunteers with both the DeSoto and Olathe school districts, and is active at her church, Grace United Methodist Church. She serves on the board with her husband, Brad.

Rebecca Romero

Rebecca has a B.S. in Biology from Baylor University and a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is a Physician Assistant in Surgical Oncology at the University of Kansas Hospital and also serves on the Kansas Academy of Physician Assistants Board of Directors as Board Treasurer.

Michael Haskins, P.A.

Michael holds a B.A. from Baker University (1971) and a J.D. from UMKC School of Law (1975). He is a practicing attorney and former mayor of Olathe (1993-1995).

Brian Conley

Brian holds a B.S. in Business Administration and is the Director of Sales at MarketSource. In his free time, he enjoys coaching a youth baseball team in the community.

David Love

David is a Software Engineer at DST Systems and serves on the Board of Trustees at Grace UMC. He is actively involved in church and enjoys reading, traveling, and collecting and repairing model trains. David is serving on the board in an interim capacity while another of our board members a tour in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.
